Project Gallery: Berkeley Streamliner for the Bonneville Salt Flats
Restored Bodywork for a Land Speed Record Attempt
Spirit of the Lakes: the Stieger / Hensley Bonneville Berkeley
Preform Resources was charged with refreshing the bodywork and adding a roll hoop fairing.
Berkeley Cars Ltd. produced micro-cars in England between 1956 and 1961. This one has been
stretched. Berkeley offered various engines; mostly with displacements under a half liter.
Engine compartment, viewed from the front, before induction system installation.
The Aurora Indycar engine with its fuel injection system installed, sans airbox.
This naturally aspirated engine produces about 700hp at 10,500 rpm.
Rear view, showing the onboard pre-heater location. The Aurora Indycar engine
requires oil preheating prior to firing as engine clearances are so tight.
The new tail, mocked-up in cardboard, is meant to smooth airflow over the rollcage.
After we built the model, we pulled this mould from it.
